Joseph J. Lane of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Syracuse, New York, died on November 2, 2017 after an extended illness.
Joe was born on July 1, 1941 in Watertown, New York, the son of Mildred and Joseph Lane. He grew up in Syracuse and was a graduate of St. Vincent DePaul High School. Joe was mostly seen on the basketball court and was a star player for St. Vincent.
He started his successful business career in the construction industry when he went to work for O'Brien & Gere Consulting Engineers in 1961 as a construction inspector. Later he worked for C & S Engineers also in Syracuse, New York.
In 1973, Joe started his own business called Ruston-Lane, Inc. which became JJ Lane Construction, Inc.; a pipeline contractor and general construction company. In 1986, Environmental Protection Services was formed. EPS specializes in Asbestos Abatement. Shortly thereafter, in 1989, Muirfield Homes was formed and started building residential homes in Syracuse. Finally in 1992, O'Connor Lane Mechanical, a Plumbing Company was started. Joe was in the construction business for over 40 years in Syracuse.
Joe loved everything Syracuse University, from football to basketball and lacrosse. He was a season ticket holder for 40+ years, and never missed the Big East Tournament.
His hobbies included Drag Racing, and he won the New York Championship. An avid golfer, he belonged to the Pompey Club and the Lafayette Country Club.
Joe had a great love of hockey and was a coach for Youth Hockey.
Joe moved to Delray Beach, Florida in 1997 and became an avid boater. He belonged to the Gulfstream Yacht Club and the Bluewater Yacht Club. He loved his boat called "The Fast Lane" and traveled extensively to the Bahamas as well as to and from Florida and the Thousand Islands in New York.
Joe was a member of the Little Club in Gulfstream and the Delray Beach Club in Delray, FL. He was a season ticket holder to the Florida Panthers Hockey team.
Joe loved life and his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Christine (Tina) Gingeleski.
He leaves behind a grieving family; his wife, Karen Lane of Delray Beach; his two sons, Joseph D. Lane (Renee) of Skaneateles, New York, David Lane (Pam) of Fayetteville, New York; his daughter, Lori Lane of Punta Gorda, Florida and three grandchildren, Jennifer Lane, Andrew Lane and Mikel Lane.
No services are planned. Joe said, "My friends know who they are, and I hope they will raise a glass to the memories we shared together, and smile."
