Jorge Luis Lopez

On the evening of June 17, 2016, Jorge Luis, beloved father and dedicated husband, passed away at his home in Boca Raton FL surrounded by family. He battled lung cancer for nine (9) years.

Jorge was born in Habana, Cuba on Nov. 8 1955. He was the first child and only son of Oilda Lopez and Rudesindo Lopez.

As a child he loved the ocean, fishing, and was an excellent swimmer.  His Mom would say, “He was the best in their home town".

Jorge left Cuba with his family at the age of thirteen. It was very traumatic for him to leave his grandparents behind and start a new life. He always dreamed of seeing a Cuba “free of Castro and Communism” and would have fought for this cause if given the opportunity.

Jorge was very patriotic and loved this country so much that he enrolled himself in the United States Marine Corps (USMC), after graduating High School.

His passion was helping his younger son, Rudy, with his baseball training and his son Emilio with his water sports. He also loved playing Monopoly with both of them. He enjoyed going to the movies and eating meals with his family. His favorite movie was “The Lord of the Rings” . His favorite books included “2000 Leagues Under The Sea”, “The Purpose Driven Life” and The Bible. He loved the outdoors and often visited Yosemite National Park where he was impressed by the “El Capitan” rock. After working in the Post-Office for several years, he ventured to Califonia to start two successful businesses, first as an “independent” Payphone Provider and then followed by an “ATM” business venture.

Jorge was very generous, his favorite charities included the Lung Cancer Association,  local hospitals and churches.

Jorge is survived by his wife, Yomaris (Cruz) Lopez, his two sons, Emilio and Rudy Lopez, his mother Oilda L Lopez and two sisters Ana Leyva and Silvia Diaz.

Special Thanks to Dr. Alfonso Ribeiro MD of The University of Miami Hospital and Nurse Isabel for her loving and  wonderful care they provided him.

He will be laid to rest at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida on Friday, June 25th.
