Deolinda ( “Dee” ) Correia, 95, formerly of Norwell, MA, died at her home in Boca Raton,FL. on Nov. 26 surrounded by family members. She was the beloved wife for 73 years of the late Edward Correia who died in 2015. The daughter of the late Joseph S. and Deolinda ( Furtado ) Almeida of Fall River,MA., she was preceded in death by her loving sisters Dorothy Zawisza, Priscilla Almeida and Bettye Almeida. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her six children and their spouses: Gail Anne Conroy of Swansea,MA, Michael and Marjorie Correia of Norfolk,MA, John and Sheryl Correia of Pembroke,MA, Chris Correia and Evert DeGraeve of New York,NY, Linda Correia of Boca Raton,FL and Boston,MA, Russ Correia of Halifax,MA as well as her two grandchildren: Sasha DeGraeve of New York,NY and Adam Correia and his wife Cassandra Scarpino of Haverford, PA. Dee was born on April 10 1921 and grew up in a predominantly Portuguese community in Fall River,MA populated heavily by immigrants from the Azores. Her family home on North Underwood street was also the site of her uncle’s business Furtado’s Chourico & Linguica, a neighborhood anchor for sausage products and food where her mother and later Dee worked to help feed the family during the difficult depression years. Dee and Ed were married in 1942 and had 6 children over the next 20 years. Upon the unexpected death of her mother Dee and Ed took in her two younger sisters providing a home for them until they were able to complete high school, college and than go off on their own into successful professional careers. As the family grew they moved from a small apartment in Fall River to their first house in Hanover before finally settling in the town of Norwell,MA. A full time mother and lifetime homemaker Dee had a welcoming presence. Her home was always an open and active gathering place. Friends of her children were treated like family members and there was always an extra seat at the dinner table for them. A deeply religious person Dee was an active member of St.Mary’s Catholic church in Hanover for many years, teaching CCD. She also helped organize and lead a Bible study program at her Boca Raton retirement community. As her family grew older and she had more time for herself Dee was able to pursue and develop her interest in art, taking lessons in painting with pastels and acrylics. She was active in the South Shore Art Center and displayed some of her work at their annual fair. She was a skilled seamstress and an excellent cook. Dee also loved reading, listening to her favorite music and watching movies. Above all Dee cherished her time spent with her husband and family. She looked forward to holiday gatherings at her home in Norwell, summer vacations at Little Sebago Lake in Maine and time spent with family members down by the sea in Boca Raton,FL. Her deep warmth, wit and loving nature will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Funeral Service will be held at MacKinnon Funeral Home, date and time pending.
